Encrypt PDF Files with Azure Information Protection (AIP)

Encrypt PDF files with Azure Information Protection (AIP)

A secured PDF is a protected PDF. Organizations use secured PDFs to assure clients that their documents are authentic. If the PDF is signed with a digital ID or certificate, the document is locked or protected to prevent changes. This protection is especially useful for legal and commercial contracts.

Secured PDFs mean users are restricted from changing or performing certain actions on them. One type of advanced means of securing PDFs is via encryption.

Encrypt PDF files with Azure Information Protection (AIP) for advanced protection

You can encrypt PDF files with Azure Information Protection (AIP). Encrypting your PDFs with AIP ensures that unauthorized people cannot read the file’s content. Protected PDF readers that support AIP verify that you’ve been granted permission to open the document, and also decrypt the content for you.

Foxit PDF Editor offers you built-in AIP protection capabilities

Foxit PDF Editor enables you to generate a redacted and AIP-protected PDF from an existing PDF. Authorized users are granted access to view the full document, while unauthorized users are only able to view the redacted document, which allows for improved sharing of non-sensitive information within a protected document.

Note that you will need to have access to an AIP server to use AIP encryption. Assuming you have AIP server access, you can generate a redacted and AIP-protected PDF by doing the following:

  1. Mark the text for redaction.
  2. Click Protect Protect Redactions, log on to your AIP server and then choose an AIP template to encrypt the document.

All PDF readers that use ISO standards will understand your encrypted PDF file. That includes Foxit PDF Reader.

Encrypting your PDFs with AIP ensures that unauthorized people cannot read the file’s content. Protected PDF readers that support AIP verify that users have been granted permission to open the document, and also decrypt the content for them. It’s an extra measure of security that comes in handy to protect copyrighted documents, secure integrity and authenticity when signing contracts, and prevent forgery and unauthorized people from viewing and modifying signed and classified data.
