Export PDFs to Word, PowerPoint, RTF, or plain text files

  1. Click File > Export, or navigate to the Convert tab. Choose To MS Office or To Other and select the format you want to convert the PDF to.

    Tips

    1) You can also export PDFs through File > Save As.

    2) If you select a format in File > Export, the cog icon appears when you put the cursor over a format, allowing you to specify the export settings (i.e., the settings in Step 3).

  2. In the pop-up dialog box, specify the file name and location for the output file. Optionally, you can click Save to ECM to save the output file to ECM systems or cloud services. Select View Result to open the output file after the conversion process is completed.
  3. (Optional) You can select more options from “Settings” in the Save As dialog box before saving the file. Take exporting PDF to Word files for instance.

In the Save As DOCX Settings dialog box, select the following exporting options as needed and click OK to exit the dialog box.

  • Page Range: chooses the page range you want to export.
  • Content Settings: specifies whether to include the comments and images in the output. This option is not available for exporting to plain text files or if you choose Convert to editable documents in Text Recognition Settings.
  • Layout Settings: which is only available when you export PDF to Word and RTF files, specify whether to retain the text flow or page layout in the output. This option is not available for exporting to plain text files.
  • Text Recognition Settings: If the PDF is primarily images and non-text objects, the Convert to editable documents option is recommended. If you choose Convert to editable documents, click Set Languages to select the language for OCR.
  • Restore Defaults: reverts to the original default settings.
  1. Click Save.

Note: To convert a PDF to Word, you can directly right-click the file and choose Convert to Microsoft Office with Foxit PDF Editor.
